Ask for a count in your prompt
Name an exact number in your prompt — for example "40 questions on returns policy" — and the run honors it, up to 100 per run. If you don't name a number, the AI drafts a focused set of up to 12 rather than padding the batch, so an exploratory run stays easy to review. If you need more than 100 items, split the work into multiple runs.
Ground generation in a source document
You can upload a source document and ground the run in it, so drafts are based on your material — a product manual, a policy, a training deck — rather than on general knowledge alone. Grounding is the most reliable way to keep generated items on-topic and aligned with what you actually want to measure.
Choose a destination folder
Generation requires a destination folder in your item library before it starts. All drafts from the run land in that folder, which keeps them separate from vetted items and easy to find. Because tags in SkillCort are folder-scoped, a dedicated folder also gives generated drafts their own tagging space during review.
Review drafts before use
Generated items are drafts you review before use. Read each one, fix wording, verify answer keys and point values, and delete anything that misses the mark. Only items you have approved should be imported into an assessment.
This step is not optional busywork: AI drafts, you decide. A draft that has not been reviewed by a person is not ready to score a candidate.
- Check the stem for clarity and factual accuracy.
- Verify the answer key — an item with no answer key auto-scores as null and needs manual review.
- Confirm points and the required toggle fit your assessment.
Accountability
AI-drafted assessments, candidate summaries, and AI score suggestions are logged with model and version provenance. Items generated into the library are marked as drafts precisely so a person reviews them before they can score anyone — the judgment call to keep, edit, or discard stays with you. Nothing AI-drafted reaches a candidate without a human having accepted it.
