How to prepare
- For sequences, check the gaps between terms first — a constant difference or a constant ratio is common.
- If the gaps are not constant, look at how the gaps themselves change, or try alternating patterns.
- For deductive puzzles, accept the given facts exactly and see only what must follow from them.
- Distinguish 'must be true' from 'could be true' — a valid conclusion holds in every case.
- Sanity-check your rule against every term you were given before choosing the next one.

Each term is multiplied by 3 to get the next: 2 × 3 = 6, 6 × 3 = 18, 18 × 3 = 54. Applying the same rule, 54 × 3 = 162. So the next number is 162. The key is that the gaps are not constant (4, 12, 36) but the ratio is — a steady ×3.
All the team leads attended the review. Priya is a team lead. Some people at the review were not team leads. What must be true about Priya?
Priya attended the review. The first fact says all team leads attended, and Priya is a team lead, so she must have been there. The statement that 'some people at the review were not team leads' does not change this — it only tells us the review included others too. So the only conclusion that must be true is that Priya attended.

- What is the difference between logical and abstract reasoning?
- Logical reasoning covers number and letter sequences, pattern rules, and deductive puzzles that can be described in words. Abstract reasoning usually uses shapes and diagrams. The underlying skill — spotting a rule and applying it — is the same.
- How do I approach a number sequence I cannot see the rule for?
- Start with the differences between terms. If they are constant it is addition; if the ratio is constant it is multiplication. If neither, look at how the differences themselves change, or check for alternating patterns and squares.
- What does 'must be true' mean in a deductive question?
- A conclusion 'must be true' only if it holds in every case allowed by the given facts. If you can imagine even one situation where the facts hold but the conclusion does not, then it does not 'must be true' — it is at most 'could be true'.
- What is a good score on a logical reasoning test?
- There is no universal pass mark — employers set their own thresholds for the role. For practice, focus on understanding the rule behind each item you miss; recognising patterns quickly comes with repetition.
- Do employers see my practice result?
